BALLINCOLLIG -Representing Ireland: Communities in Bloom International Challenge 2026
The Communities in Bloom International Challenge is a Canadian-based worldwide competition that celebrates whole communities working together to create vibrant, welcoming and sustainable places to live. It brings together towns that have excelled in national programmes such as Ireland’s Tidy Towns, recognising the efforts of residents, businesses, schools, community groups and local authorities. The challenge is a chance to showcase local achievements, share ideas, and learn from inspiring communities around the world. The community of Ballincollig are extremely proud to represent Ireland in this years challenge.
Theme of the Year: Therapeutic Gardening
The 2026 Communities in Bloom theme is Therapeutic Gardening, recognising the important role that green spaces play in supporting our health and well-being. Gardens, parks and natural areas provide places to relax, connect with nature and strengthen both body and mind. Whether through community gardens, sensory planting, biodiversity projects or simply enjoying time outdoors, therapeutic gardening helps foster resilience, inclusion and a stronger sense of community.
In Ballincollig, we are fortunate to have a wealth of green spaces, walking trails, parks and community-led planting initiatives that contribute to the quality of life enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. Through the efforts of local volunteers, community groups, schools, businesses and Cork City Council, these spaces continue to enhance the beauty of our town while providing opportunities for recreation, connection and well-being for people of all ages.
A Day to Remember – Welcoming the Communities in Bloom International Judges
Ballincollig is proudly representing Ireland in the Communities in Bloom International Challenge, with the international adjudication visit taking place on 25 and 26 June 2026.
Over two memorable days, the judges experienced our Regional Park, schools, allotments and community organisations, while discovering the rich heritage, biodiversity and strong community spirit that make Ballincollig such a special place to live, work and visit.
This article looks back on the adjudication visit and celebrates the incredible efforts of the volunteers, residents, businesses, schools, community groups and Cork City Council who came together to showcase our town.
