Newsletter 28 February, 2026
Ballincollig Tidy Towns announces an exciting milestone as “Ballincollig in Bloom” is selected to represent Ireland in the 2026 Communities in Bloom International Challenge, celebrating community-led environmental excellence. Alongside this, volunteers continue extensive weekly work across the town, from litter picking and planting to habitat and streetscape improvements, as preparations build towards a busy year ahead.

Ballincollig Tidy Towns volunteers had another active week of community work, including litter picking across the Regional Park, visitor exchanges with other Tidy Towns groups, and extensive planting bed and hedge maintenance across Coolroe Meadows, Westcliffe, and Classis. The team also progressed composting and planting preparations, continuing to enhance local green spaces ahead of the summer season.

Ballincollig Tidy Towns volunteers and Transition Year students continued their community work with weekly litter picking, planting bed maintenance, hedge trimming, and town enhancement projects despite wet weather. Alongside practical improvements across areas including Westcliffe, Carrigrohane, and Classis, the group highlighted the importance of community connection through its weekly volunteer “Cuppa and Chat” and encouraged new volunteers to get involved.

Ballincollig Tidy Towns volunteers continued their community efforts despite challenging weather, carrying out litter picking, recycling, hedge maintenance, and clean-up projects across the town. Transition Year students made visible progress on a major planting bed at Westcliffe, while volunteers completed improvement works near Applegreen and the Welcome to Ballincollig sign to enhance the town’s appearance.

Ballincollig Tidy Towns volunteers had another busy week, with litter picking, leaf clearing, hedge cutting, and footpath improvements carried out across areas including Barry’s Road, Muskerry Estate, Innishmore, and Greenfields. Supported by volunteers and Transition Year students, the work focused on improving safety, tidiness, and drainage while continuing to identify new community projects.

Ballincollig Tidy Towns volunteers had another productive week, with litter picking, hedge cutting, planting, and clean-up works carried out across the town, including Poulavone Roundabout, Carrigrohane, and Old Fort Road. The group also supported biodiversity initiatives, celebrated a special community event at Coláiste Choilm, and continued projects at their headquarters, highlighting the ongoing impact of local volunteer efforts.
